Preview: Puchi Puchi Virus

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Some people practically go through purgatory with all of the stress and studying they do to become a doctor. With schooling and internships, the process of becoming a M.D. can take over 10 years and cost tons of money. But playing as Dr. Kevin Longfellow in Puchi Puchi Virus, you’ll only need about 10 minutes to master the medicine practice and you won’t go crazy in the process.

Review: SEGA Superstars Tennis

Monday, March 17th, 2008

There’s nothing wrong with having a Sega character sports game. In fact, it could be cool to take advantage of series with unique characters from Sonic the Hedgehog to Ulala of Space Channel 5. Maybe the mice from Chu Chu Rocket can’t play tennis, but they can definitely feature in a mini-game! Sadly, while the characters add style, they really don’t do much for the faulted gameplay you find in Sega Superstars Tennis.

Review: Naruto: Ninja Destiny

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

With popular anime comes the inevitable parade of spin-off games. Naruto is no exception; the Little Ninja Who Could has appeared on several game platforms over the past few years. Aspiring ninjas therefore won’t be starved for content if they take a pass on the bland Naruto: Ninja Destiny for the Nintendo DS.

Review: Nanostray 2

Monday, March 10th, 2008

If the original Nanostray left you floating in deep space with its tacked-on touch controls, absentee story and unlimited continues, Shin’en has heard your distress call. Nanostray 2 corrects all of these problems while maintaining the gorgeous production values we’ve come to expect from the original DS game and Iridion GBA titles.

Review: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates

Monday, March 10th, 2008

When the original Crystal Chronicles debuted on the Gamecube, it raised a few eyebrows as it eschewed much of the famous Final Fantasy formula. The game’s successor, Ring of Fates, also differentiates itself from the series proper by breaking new ground with the DS’s touchpad but it still upholds Square’s rigorous artistic standards.

Review: Puchi Puchi Virus

Monday, March 10th, 2008

What the hell’s a Puchirus? The virus has turned the “dull but kind” inhabitants of a “quaint planet much like Earth” into “wild, aptly named creatures.” Fortunately, Doctor Keven A. Longfellow has developed the Puchi Buster DS, which cures patients with “high doses of pure awesome.” It sounds like a game scenario an eight year old would come up with, but for that very reason, Puch Puchi Virus sort of rocks.

Review: Mysterious Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer

Monday, March 10th, 2008

I never really pinned myself as someone who could do roguelikes. Nethack always struck me as rather bewildering, but maybe it was just the cryptic @ symbolizing my existence and the fact that nearly every other character on the keyboard was out to get me. Call me a noob! Fortunately, for the roguelike-curious, Mysterious Dungeon titles are friendly and fun.

Review: Zoo Tycoon 2 DS

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

It’s easy to see where the “Tycoon” part of Zoo Tycoon 2 comes in– babies. More and more babies…to sell on the black market, I like to pretend. Sure the nature show bit is skipped, but magically, pint-sized critters sprout up in exhibits, cute little hearts over their heads. Once the hearts disappear, you’re free to release them into the wild or follow your tycoon instincts and use them to make huge dollars! But I’m getting ahead of myself.
