Shadow Dancing: Blue Dragon’s “Big Shadow” Campaign Wins Cannes Award

The creators of Blue Dragon, the fantasy RPG for the 360, have really outdone themselves with their latest advertising campaign. In the game, you make use of your character's shadow to create giant dragons to battle for you so, following that line of thinking, the BD team put in an art installation of sorts in the Shibuya area of Tokyo, Japan called "Big Shadow" where people from the street could walk up and have their shadows cast onto a giant wall. The participants could then jump around and watch their shadows dance, but perform certain movements and you were treated to a big surprise. The act of raising your hands would create a dragon shadow which would then start what I'm assuming was an animated sequence, where other dragons would appear and do battle plus a few other surprises that I won't give away here. It's quite a great effect and it would be cool if they could do something like that here in the States, but knowing the vagaries of city codes, the possibility of that seems rather slim.
For their efforts, the team was rewarded with Cannes Advertising Award's prestigious Gold Lion award for outdoor advertising. You can check out a video of the presentation in action here or if you prefer stationary image viewing you can see a gallery of pictures here.
