Still In Saigon: Majesco Brings Vietnam To The DS
I don't know what thoughts pop into your head when you think about Nintendo DS games and gaming, but playing a squad-based Vietnam War game certainly doesn't pop into mine. It just seems against the whole DS fun time vibe I get when playing a game on the handheld. Majesco Entertainment begs to differ, however, revealing plans to release Operation: Vietnam for the DS this Fall. The game is to feature touch screen command issuing action and different weapons and specialties based on soldier type. Oh, and two types of grenades, a point the press release felt was important enough for its own bullet.
I just can't see myself wanting to play this. Not on the DS at least. It's a combination of the subject matter seeming a little too serious for the handheld and feeling that the experience wouldn't translate well to such a limited format. Then again, what do I know? Majesco brought us Cooking Mama, Cakemania, and a great many more quality video games than I will ever produce, so I'll leave the publishing decisions to them. Maybe if things pan out we'll finally get Cooking Mama: War Rationing Edition.
Majesco Entertainment Announces 'Operation: Vietnam,' A New Squad-Based Action Game For the Nintendo DS
BRISTOL, UK, May 16, 2007 - Majesco Entertainment Company (NASDAQ: COOL), an innovative provider of video games and digital entertainment products for the mass market, today announced the latest addition to its popular line of Nintendo DS™ games, Operation: Vietnam. Developed by Coyote Console and scheduled for worldwide release this autumn, Operation: Vietnam drops players into the war-torn jungles of Vietnam as they try to escape enemy territory.
"Operation: Vietnam packs the run-and-gun action found in popular arcade games into the Nintendo DS™," said John Merchant, Marketing Manager, Majesco Europe. "The squad-based gameplay and variety of missions create a fast-paced, exciting experience for gamers on the go."
In Operation: Vietnam, a chopper flight over the thick jungles of worn-torn Vietnam goes horribly wrong as the transport is shot down deep inside Viet Cong territory. Surrounded by the enemy, players must rally their squad and lead them back to safety. Along the way, players must fend off repeated assaults while liberating oppressed villagers.
Exciting features of Operation: Vietnam include:
* Use the Touch Screen to issue commands, access inventory, view maps and select which squad member to control;
* Utilize your squad to combat multiple enemy types including: soldiers, tanks, turrets, enemy barracks, etc.;
* Take advantage of different specialties and weapons per soldier: long range rifle, grenade launcher, automatic weapons, and more;
* Flush out enemies with smoke grenades or take them out with fragmentation grenades.
