Reggie Brings Good News, Bad News

Chatting with Stephen Totilo over at MTV, Reggie brings a double-punch of new news, some good, some...not so good. I'll get the bad stuff over with first, so that by the end of the post hope may spring eternal.

BAD NEWS: Metroid Prime 3? Yeah, it's not coming in "early 2007".

The focus on 'Prime 3' is to make that the stellar game for a first-person experience on the platform. ... What that means is we're going to make sure it's perfect when we launch it. I think this is one where your readers -- the fans of Nintendo, the core gamer -- need to recognize that when we release it, it will be perfect. And if that's a little later than folks would have liked, I'm hoping they're going to be happy.

Hey, chin up. Lemme see that smile of yours. There you go, kiddo. I know, I know he said "read my lips". But remember, there's still some good news, so don't go crying just yet...

GOOD NEWS: Reggie isn't really that big of a Mother fan. But Iwata is. So Totilo asked probably the most perfect question ever in light of yesterday's news about Japanese Virtual Console games: How about some Mother 3 on the Virtual Console?

It certainly is a franchise near and dear to [Iwata's] heart, and it's something I'm trying to get smart on to understand whether or not there is an opportunity here. But certainly I've seen the success in Japan. That hasn't gone unnoticed. And it's certainly something we're looking at.

Two positive statements regarding a Western Mother release in two days? Creepy.

BONUS GOOD NEWS: Reggie also spoke about some extra goodies they can shill using the Virtual Console. As in, not a game or a Wii Channel.

We have a tremendous amount of old Nintendo Power [magazine] content, for example, that we could present to consumers as a way to get smart about Virtual Console

If it's free (which by his tone it may well be), knock yourself out, Reggie. That'd be swell.
