Valve Brings Adverbucks To CS

We touched on this a couple of weeks ago, when it was still a whisper of a nameless threat (ie a "test"). Now, though, it's for realz.

Valve's plans for world domination kicked up another gear yesterday with the official announcement that they've signed a big in-game advertising deal with agency IGA Worldwide. You may remember IGA, they're the same guys who were the famously popular in-game ads for Battlefield 2142. The deal will see ads popping up all over Counter-Strike, no doubt leaving players confused and probably a little upset.

In justifying the deal, Valve Party Commissar Doug Lombardi says:

As the world's premier online action game, Counter-Strike's player minutes exceed its closest competitor by more than 100 per cent.

Additionally, Counter-Strike rivals many of the current top ten watched shows on American televisions. For instance, a top ranked, one hour, weekly program garners 20 million viewers and results in approximately 4.8 billion viewer minutes per month.

Conversely, Counter-Strike generates over 5 billion player minutes in the same period of time. And, nobody fast-forwards through any part of Counter-Strike.

Doug, you spun those figures so much I feel nauseous.
