This Day in Gaming, July 25th

2001: EA secures rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise. EA is like a stepfather who knows his new kids can never love him outright, so he buys them new bikes. The kids may love the bikes...

2003: Nintendo releases F-Zero GX in Japan for GC. Zero was all, "F me? No Nintendo, F You." Then Nintendo was all, "What, it's just a game." And Zero was all, "To you it's a game, but that title has stopped me from getting a job - twice." Then Nintendo was all, "Yeah, but it didn't make you sit on the couch all day, eating Cheetos and watching reruns of The View. Maybe you should be more proactive about scanning the classifieds." And Zero was all, "You got me there. I don't even get the paper."

2003: Capcom releases Onimusha Tactics in Japan for GBA. This is obviously considered the strategic, tactical or moderately brainy version of the Onimusha series. Even so, unlike what your mother told you, hacking away at a million cloned enemies doesn't make you "gifted", though it might make you "special".

2005: Microsoft announces the planned worldwide release of the Xbox 360 at the Xbox Summit in Japan. Yeah, and that worked out just great.
