360 Sells 1,897 Units Last Week in Japan: What’s Going Wrong?
We spend a lot of time beating up on Sony and praising the 360 here, but the thing to remember is we're all Americans. We're idiots: ask Ashcraft, an American living in Japan who has managed to fail his driver's exam three times in a row, the last time because "the car was parked a little bit too far away from the curb."
Yes, the Japanese are smarter than us... or at least far more inscrutable. So despite the fact that the 360 has great multiplayer, astounding graphics and is pretty damned cheap in comparison with the upcoming PS3, it's still failing in Japan.
Ashcraft just posted news that the Xbox Japan CEO is none too optimistic about Japan. And why would he be? Last week, according to market tracker Media Create, the 360 only sold 1,897 units in Japan, versus 23,133 PS2 units.
We're not positive the PS3's going to 'win' Japan: we're betting on the Wii. Still, we're pretty damned sure at this point it isn't going to be the 360.
