PS3 Costs Cause Little Studio To Bail
Thought the PS3 was expensive? Try developing for it. Game developer Track7Games is abandoning the PS3 version of its multi-platform game, Theseis. The reason? Yup, excessively high development costs. Granted, this is a very, very small Greek studio with twelve or so people working on the title, all with no prior experience.
Game site PS3 Land reports that the studio's Managing Director Vicky Valanos told them, "If Sony were to offer us assistance in producing a PS3 version we would be more than happy to oblige!" We recommend that Sony starts giving out loans or putting game development on a lay-away program. How are the smaller guys ever going to make titles for the PS3 without some sort of Sony financial aid? Guess that's what Xbox Live Arcade is for.

Update: track7games posted a response this afternoon to PS3Land's story. The site claims they never canceled the PS3 version of the game and that it never existed. They go on to say, they decided to "not move ahead because we deemed it not probable at this time." So, wait, did it exist? Hit the jump for their full post.
Update 2: Ok now PS3Land is apologizing and says that track7games told them what they said, and were quoted as saying was just a joke. WTF?
track7games responds to erroneous article
PS3land.com wrote an erroneous article on June 29, 2006 regarding track7games and our upcoming game, "Theseis".
track7games would like to clarify that we never cancelled something that did not exist in the first place. We plan to develop "Theseis" for PC and Xbox360 in the near future. As for the PS3, we simply made a strategic decision to not move ahead because we deemed it not probable at this time.
PS3Land's response
Track7 Games has contacted us to correct an error. Apparently, Theseis was never in development for PlayStation 3. Here's what Track7 had to say:
"We never began developing the game for PS3 in order to cancel development. We just made a strategic decision to not move ahead because we deemed it not probable at this time."
We apologise for any confusion caused by the original article. Track7 now claim that what they originally told us was a "joke".
