Uwe Boll Sues BloodRayne Distributors for Mishandling His Film
![]()
Professional chowderhead Uwe Boll is taking the BloodRayne distributors to court for mishandling the movie’s release. The director is suing Romar Entertainment for failing to release the picture on 2,000 screens last January, failing to pay the producer a share of gross receipts and not using the $10 million Boll’s production company shelled out to promote the film. Romar’s co-founder James Schramm is three kinds of Hollywood pissed and says his company is preparing its own lawsuit for pulling Romar’s name for the DVD release.
Time out. He wants his company’s name on a Uwe Boll film?!
Continuing, Schramm spewed venom all over chowderhead, saying “Hollywood doesn’t need someone who’s coming in from another country and demanding their way of doing things, and then in dealing with honest people like us, just taking advantage of us.” No James. You are dead wrong. Humanity doesn’t.
Maybe Dr. Boll is in the right. Maybe this Schramm Hollywood guy wronged him. Maybe not. My two cents: sue Uwe for making crappy movies.

“Tengoku” Is Japanese for “Heaven”
Rhythm Tengoku (Rhythm Heaven) The Japan-only GBA title is chock-full of 2~3 minute rhythm games played by simple button-pushing. There are level bosses to be beaten, after which players bag metals and prizes. Word is that the game is very strict about timing. Perfect because I have none at all. Games include a karate fly smasher and vegetable de-hairing game with tweezers! Rhythm Tengoku descends from heaven August 3rd.

Halo Graphic Novel Sneak Peek
TeamXbox just posted some scans from the upcoming Halo graphic novel.
The Halo Graphic Novel is an anthology of original stories set in the Halo universe representing an unprecedented display of visual storytelling. Building on the success of the critically acclaimed Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 video games, the graphic novel will feature the series’ iconic characters, weapons and scenarios and the epic struggle against the alien threats known as the Covenant and the Flood.
I usually drool over Moebius’ stuff, but it’s kinda lackluster here. Dig that crazy Simon Bisley, though!

DDO solo play now available
Filed under: PC, Action, Adventure, Online, RPGs, MMO
Last month at E3, Turbine announced they would be adding solo play to Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach — a decision based on user feedback (and most likely, to bring the game a step closer to World of Warcraft). According to the company’s web site, a “Solo” option is now available to players at the earliest levels, and dungeon difficulty is adjusted accordingly, although there are certain maps that still require team play. PvP functionality will also be added in the future.

FTC Promises Hot Coffee Report Soon!
Remember Hot Coffee? Sure you do. It’s the example we gamers like to hysterically shriek about any time we perceive the grim spectre of censorship swooping down upon our preferred media. It singlehandedly illustrates that everyone in the country except us — the gaming elite, the enlightened few — are sexually repressed prudes.
Anyway, after Rockstar accidentally got an interactive, thrust-by-thrust sex game in San Andreas, the FTC promised the concerned that they’d “look into it.” And now, one year later, 1UP is promising that a report on whether or not Rockstar deceived the ESRB is expected soon.
Let’s hope common sense prevails. Although there is a valid point that Rockstar’s Hot Coffee mini-game went beyond titillation into quasi-pornography, the fact remains that it is a mod and companies should not be forced to disclose to the rating boards every asset in a game that some intrepid hacker may be able to fish out of the source. Although I have to admit, the fallout from Hot Coffee was good for me, as a gamer: it got Rockstar to release a second version of the PS2 game with that stupid bugged Zero mission
We’ll let you know when the report from a bunch of career hypocrties comes in.

Retro look at extreme exaggeration in game adverts

GameSetWatch has posted a brilliant article that highlights several examples of “visual hyperbole” being used in video game advertisements. The article looks at several examples where the marketing department might have gone a little too far, although in retrospect we’re glad they did because it gives us the chance to laugh our socks off at their outrageous attempts to get people to buy their games.

Make PS2 Games… CHEAP

Pssst! Sony’s got a deal on PlayStation 2 development tools. Subsidiary SN System is lobbing a third off the price immediately. SN’s Andy Beveridge says, “As a company, we feel one of our greatest strengths is our ability to listen to and deliver what developers are asking for.” (*cough* cheaper PS3 development costs *cough*) This must be the game developer equivalent of when the supermarket lowers the price on day-old bread.

Square Shoots Nintendo “Hoops”

From the makers of Final Fantasy comes this fine frosted-hair sports RPG in which players assume the roles of popular metrosexual Nintendo characters like Wario or Luigi. This Square Enix DS titles takes advantage of the touch screen, lets players turn enemies into coins and features extremely long cinematic cut-scences underscored by drippy pop music.
That’s a lie. The music is not drippy.

An in-depth review of E3 media booths
Kyle over at Video Game Media Watch turns the spotlight back on the media’s presence at E3 with an in-depth review of the big media booths that were dotted around the show floor. Here’s the quick and dirty from Kyle’s write-up:
- 1UP/Ziff Davis’ booth wasn’t very crowded, although the free copies of EGM were popular.
- BradyGames, the strategy guide publisher, stuck a couple of Guitar Hero 2 booths in their stall and let the crowds grow exponentially.
- GameSpot’s booth was very inaccessible. So either they were working hard, or they were playing a massive LAN game.
- UGO couldn’t hide their Geometry Wars addiction. Oh, and they stole chairs from neighboring booths.
- G4 let people browse the web for free: free internet FTW!
Kyle goes into a lot more detail, so make sure to check out his full article.
