Xbox 360 with HD-DVD Cheaper Than Sony’s Waffle Iron

News site GamesIndustry.biz reports that UK retailers are saying the 360 bundled with the HD-DVD extra will be cheaper than Sony's PS3. (But hey, some used cars are cheaper than the PS3.) The HD-DVD player is the next-generation DVD standard being pushed by Japanese electronics giant Toshiba and is competing against Sony's powerful Blu-Ray. The success of the PS3 hinges on Blu-Ray beating HD-DVD. If the format fizzles, it could mean curtains for Sony's game console. If not, it could mean truck loads of cash. Risky, yes, but props to Sony for believing in something so strongly that the company's willing to gamble everything in attempting to forcefeed its new format. — Brian Ashcraft
